Additional information

Was your grandparent serving in Crown service or UK government service abroad at the time of your parent's birth?
For example, military, diplomatic or colonial civil service. See s.14(2) BNA 1981.
Was your parent a British citizen otherwise than by descent at the time of your birth?
This means they acquired citizenship automatically (e.g. born in the UK or to a UK-born parent), not by registration or naturalisation abroad. See s.14(1) BNA 1981.
Did your parent live in the UK for a continuous period of 3 years at any point?
This is relevant to the s.3(2) BNA 1981 registration route.
Was your parent born in a territory that was a British Protectorate rather than a Crown Colony?
Protectorates include parts of Nigeria, the Malay States, Aden, Somaliland, Uganda, Nyasaland (Malawi), Northern Rhodesia (Zambia), Bechuanaland (Botswana) and others. Persons born in Protectorates were not automatically Citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies. If you are unsure, select 'I do not know'.
